    Frustrating SEOC

    Hi Challengers. I am new to the Challenge and am working through Module 4 Keyword analysis. I have an existing product developed, its a stock market trading system. I have run probably 100+ keywords and I can get an SEOT that's good, a PBR that's good but ... I cannot get in the optimal range for the SEOC. What does this mean? What do I do? I don't want to abandon my product as it is an incredible tool but yet at the same time, Market Samurai is telling me there is too much competition.

    I'm afraid you're trying to crack a niche that thousands of people have been researching every day for years. Easily one of the top five most competitive markets on the net. You're up against the best.

    I have run probably 100+ keywords

    If I were to go after that market, I'd expect to spend a solid month on keyword research alone.

    It sounds to me like you're committed to your niche no matter what, so if that's the case, then you're off the page as far as Challenge guidelines go. Do the best you can and take the results you get (which is always what we're doing anyway).

    There is really nothing the least bit mysterious about how it works. Higher competition keywords take more time and more resources and more expertise to rank for than lower competition keywords. Hence, lower competition keywords are the only sane way to test a niche. But you're committed, so you're not testing a niche, you're going for broke. Do the best you can and take what happens. The Challenge process is still the best way to get started and to learn the basics of how to build and promote a web site.

    G'day TraderGuy; having now completed The Challenge and now running a page that makes money albeit modest, I think its important to understand what the goal of the Challenge is:

    That is:
    1. to make $1 and;
    2. to do it in the time it takes to complete the 7 modules

    So given that: the restraints on SEOT, PRB and SEOC are built such so that the majority of 'challengers' can complete the challenge (make $1)

    In your case it looks like you have a pretty wicked product, interest and expertise in the market and can probably spend far more time and invest more money in the project that most who do the challenge.

    I would suggest picking a keyword phrase that meets both SEOT and PBR of the challenge and then maybe with the SEOC be a little more flexible? say anything up to 100,000? In addition, also check what the SEO Competition is like and if it has a few yellows but mostly green forge ahead...

    At the end of the day, its only going to set you back 20bucks for the domain name and the time you put in to complete the challenge.

    By the end of the challenge you'll be super knowledgeable about online marketing and might then scrap the original domain name and try a new one. See how you go.

    Hi Dean, Many thanks for the reply. Yish ... now I am shaking in my boots a bit. Damn the torpedos ... full steam ahead. I will spend more time on keyword research and look for the "green" competition from market samurai.

    Many thanks ... Craig

    Hi Patrick ... man thanks for the advice. I like the 100,000 SEOC number. I'll give that a go.

    Cheers, Craig
