Just used MS to do some back linking but was disappointed.

My 1st time doing some blog commenting.
    It was real disappointing.
The majority of them are "no follow" which I didn't expect.
There were problems with the very few "follow" websites. They wouldn't allow comments or PR of 0 or the page didn't even exist or it was off topic.
It was my first experience and I godda say it was not what I was hoping for.
I guess that's life in the real world.
Anybody got any experiences you wanna share
    or anything you wanna share.
Anyone else disappointed, any one appointed?

Ed made a post this week giving us the results of a follow/no-follow test he did. The results show that follow vs no-follow isn't as critical as everyone makes it to be. Google still sees the links.

Sorry, it wasn't Ed that made the post, it was Dean Richards.

Our training tells us that having all follow links is unnatural and Google may dance with us if we only have follow links. A "normal" site will build up both follow and no follow proportionately. If our sites do not do that, they may get knocked back. Ed says "Those who do the work, get the results." What he's saying, is that we need to just keep slogging away at manual backlinking and article writing. To my mind, it's still better than digging holes in the road or cleaning toilets.

Regardless of the no follow or do follow, I agree with his point that the MS backlink module is a little dissapointing. To call them high quality backlinks is stretching it a bit. I suppose it depends on the niche but my results had a lot of sites you can't comment on and some very very spammy looking blogs.

You're blaming the Market Samurai Promotion Module for the fact that people put up spammy blogs?

I should think it is obvious that The Promotion Module is nothing more than a bunch of Google search presets that limit results to certain types of sites. You can't blame Google if the web is full of crap. The module gives you a ton of useful information right up front and makes the job of finding quality backlinks ten times easier than if you tried to do all of this manually.

The only fair comparison is how the module works compared to how much time and trouble it is to do the exact same process manually with a browser. Like I said, you can't blame the module for what's on the web.

If you know a better way to find and analyze prospective backlinks, by all means, please tell us!

Not sure why on earth you have chosen to take such a tone with me. Tell me where in my posts I blame MS for people putting up spammy blogs or blame Google!?

I'm simply agreeing with the OP's position that the results returned are a little disappointing. That's it, a LITTLE disappointing. I like MS and think it is a very good tool, but I think it is perfectly justified to be critical of it as well. It does have bugs you know, hence all the updates. If a tool says it will find you high quality backlinks and the results returned show websites that have no ability to leave a comment or backlink, then you are right to be disappointed. If the results returned are 3 year old yahoo answers that you can't even answer anymore then I think it's fair to be disappointed. If the results reurned are lots of very spammy wordpress blogs that look like spun content and could no way be described as high quality then I think you can be disappointed.

I appreciate that it can only return results for what is on the internet which is why in my first post I already said the quality of results could be dependent on the niche.

If you know a better way to find and analyze prospective backlinks, by all means, please tell us!
I find this rather rude and unnecessary, I never suggested that I think I had a better method.

I actually like using the technique taught in last year's 30DC for "White Hat" pingbacks.
I use this a lot, and it does not take long at all. I do not recall if it was hit upon this year,
and if it was I think it was at the very end (?) but what I do is
    • add a new keyword for whatever it is I am writing about in the article,
    • click on the Promotion Module, & check mark all of the available sources I want to use
    • click on "Find Backlinks"
    • When I get the backlink results I click on "Analyze All"
    • Sort the results by "PB" (pingbacks)
    • Select a few of the results after checking out the site - NOT enough results? Click "MORE"
    • "Mark" those selections
    • Check mark "Open in New Window"
    • Click on Copy Visual
    • I then add these (usually as My Site Name's Recommended Reading: to the very bottom of the article

I do check out the sites to be sure they are relative and reflect well on my site, which is simple to do within MS. I, of course, don't usually use it to promote my main competitors. Its an easy way to get pingbacks while giving my readers more info at the same time. I feel, in the end, they will thank ME for it.

While a lot of sites are no-follow, a lot of those allow pingbacks, and they are easy to utilize using this technique.

    Maggie,

This is interesting. I had no idea that I can just link the site I found to my website, using the "Promotion" and "find back links" module. But I guess I should not have known this seeing that I started the Challenge again from the beginning. So much good info is here.
