    What about those monster sites?

In my competitor analysis there are some monster sites with thousands of indexed pages and back links. But one is a wiki, another just has a page on my topic (diynetwork). They have thousands of pages but very few that directly address my niche. Do I even have a chance to get in the top 10? There are a couple of slots I think I could take. I wonder if my niche is just too big to crack.

I love seeing big sites like wiki, amazon, ebay, youtube etc in the listings because they usually are ranking based on the sheer size of their site and not because they are targeting that keyword very strongly. I would not be afraid at all.

Yes, what akalafr says. I want to add one thing though...

The only exception is, if it is a niche focused wiki that also has some links to that particular page. I have that with a few keywords in a niche.. the page gets referenced alot in niche forums. It's
still not impossible, but it requires more effort.

If it is a niche-focused wiki, here is what you can do if you practice market leadership: Sign up with the wiki, get involved and later add your own link to the wiki page.
