Freewriting - Wow! What an experience...

I was on holiday last week so catching up with module two this week.

And Ed was right, I found the prospect of creating content a bit daunting.

The freewriting process has, as Ed promised, blown me away! I looked down at the keyboard the whole time, wrote gibberish most of the time (I think!) and was amazed when my alarm went as quickly as it did. It felt like I'd only been writing for a couple of minutes.

If anyone is reading this who is delaying or putting of this step of the process, please give it a go!

PLEASE! Provided you did some research and 'fueled up', you will surprise, amaze and delight yourself. I promise.

Can't wait to see what actually came out of my brain tomorrow when I get to edit what I wrote!

Just watched the vids now myself, (yes I am behind too ha) and it sounds very promising indeed. Cant wait to get cracking at it tomorrow. HAve to say I have a good feeling about this years challenge, there is just more motivation. Maybe it's just me but boy I cant wait. Over and oout.

Me too. I first thought that it started too slowly (I was probably comparing it with previous challenges which is not a good idea). Then I fell behind for a while but whereas before that would bring me down I knew I had time to catch up so I wasn't behind after all - if that makes sense :-)

I find that being part of an active group that is in touch every week through skype calls and in between through google groups is really helping too. We are sharing any challenges and successes and that is great motivation.

Hey just to give you a heads up....you're not behind!

We have designed this year in such a way that time is not so important. Taking consistent action each day is. So no matter when you started, or how long it is taking you to complete each step of the process. What we are most concerned and interested in, is you taking consistent action, 30 minutes a day.

You guys have a great attitude, please don't muddy that with judging yourself as being behind or anything like that, as that sort of thinking can cloud all the good stuff you've got going on.

I'm really digging this too! I just fueled up on one news article because I was interested in it and ended up with an entire 10 minutes of non-stop typing about what I learned from that article and related comments in my niche. I don't necessarily recommend stopping at one article but writing is not one of my weakest abilities and it just flowed after the article gave me go-juice.

Removing the need to be absolutely correct is an amazing productivity boost, although I can hear the moans of English teachers from my past when I do it. LOL

Just gonna throw my two cents in: I have just completed a post grad in teaching and this involved a lot, and I mean a lot of writing! I wish I had used Ed's technique because writing those assignments were like pulling teeth! Whereas the free article writing was actually fun despite knowing Jack all about the subject before fuelling up. All I would say is just give it a go and be prepard to be pleasantly suprised.

Like Pete says at the beginning of this post it was interesting. The tens mins did pass lke 8 minutes for me. I think I need to fuel up more, and i have just put the freewriting to bed, so cant look at it till tomorrow.

But got a lot of thoughts down on paper, well notepad actually, so will wait and see what Ed has to say in day 4. In the meantime i will go and listen to the third dvd on this day about publishing content.

I found it fun also. Writing with no restrictions, writing freely, not bothering if I couldn't remember facts. I was also pleasantly surprised with the amount I did remember and also with how much of the scribbling I could use when I came to edit. What was best was that my personality came through into the writing. And this made it alive, interesting and "real".

I agree with many others here - free writing is amazing. I first started free writing several months ago after I read an article about it and, since I was hiring myself out as a writer, I figured I'd give it a shot. It completely transformed what I wrote and felt about my writing from then on.

Now, doing this challenge, I was doubtful how well I would do free writing when I couldn't look back at any of the notes I took while researching and a bit worried that I wouldn't remember a lot of them. That didn't turn out to be a problem at all, actually! The next day in the editing phase, I realized that I was able to recall about 75% of my key notes. It was really an eye-opening experience - I had no idea my brain could fuel up with so much information!
