I don't know whether to thank it or not Have always had difficulty understanding RSS, but I did manage to get a link put on my word press direct blog. But I had 10 or so entries posted to my blog that had nothing to do with my keywords. I didn't know how to delete thesepostings so I just deleted the whole RSS extension.. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I tried to add my url www.keyword.com/feed to an aggregator (sp) but it tells me that a valid rss feed could not be found. Do I have to do anything in WPD to activate thr RSS feed
Kevin- I went into help section for WPD and they said to go into admin panel to widget to metd and drag meta to the right hand side. When I did that I got lots of content posted none of it relating to my blog. So I undid this.
My blog shows RSS on it but when I tried to enter the url into feedagg.com by using www.mykeyword.com/feed I am told that my url feed couldn't be found. Incidentally, didn't know you had tried to answer this and just placed another posting for my second problem. Tou can't pull up rss feeds in the search box. Right now I'm so confused I don't know if I'm coming or going on this. Although some who know me might say What else is new" lol
beebee, you're trying to come at RSS from both ends
First, we are not yet supposed to be using anything from WPDirect except what the challenge videos show. So, no wandering off into the WPDirect videos and installing things. You installed a tool that pulls content from other sites to your sites, using RSS. Sounds like you got rid of it OK.
Now, your own site also has an RSS feed that can send your content to other people. Trafficbug uses it to submit to sites called RSS aggregators which are like directories of RSS feeds. Feedagg.com is one of those, but if you are using Trafficbug as the Challenge videos show, you don't need to go there directly.
Depending on the theme you picked for your site, www.mykeyword.com/feed may or may not be the correct URL for your feed. Go to your home page (view it, don't go into the admin dashboard ) and somewhere on it there will be an RSS feed icon - usually a little orange box with curved lines in one corner. Click on that and you should be able to get the address of your feed. For example, the feed for my site is http://www.mykeyword.com/?feed=rss2
you didnt hurt anything. I dont use wpd but if you put a feed that was posting to your site that was not related nothing lost.
add a new feed, hopefully one more closely related.
there will be a column in the left Dasboard with a couple of options
after that you will see Post with several options
click edit
now u should see a list of posts
hover over name and some options should pop up including delete.
But you were right the first time delete the feed, who's got time to go delete a bunch of crappy posts.
Thank you everyone for yur input. When I got up this morning things looked less confusing and I think I actually figured out most of it. My Rss feed was working this morning although I swear it wasn't yesterday. I'm beginning to understand RSS and realize that if I remove my mental block it will go much easier. Incidentally, I know you've heard it before, but the Challenge is so much better this year. There is time to actually understand what we are learning.
