Not really a forum type question nor a WPD help desk problem but.....

Well I thought it was a WPD help desk problem but with further investigation (more than two days and four computers) I have discovered that it is a computer problem so I am hoping that someone in the forum may have come across this before and can point me in the right direction, if not this is the last thing I am going to try and will publish my site with Wordpress, although I prefer to follow the Challenge exactly.
    OK enough waffle,
    1. I have a membership (free Challenge one) with WPD, not a problem, I try to log in and it returns me to index page every single time. I try to send a ticket but as I can't log in this is a problem.
    2. I go to the library and check out on their computer (sh... with a new membership, sorry WPD). I can log in, great.
    3. At home office try to log in to new membership...I am returned to home page the same as before.
    4. Play with security settings in control panel... they were set very high (I thought I had found the problem) and I lowered them to medium and restarted computer ....Still cannot log in. I am sent to index page
    5. Skype a semi-techie friend, go over security ideas. No success but she can log into my membership, not a problem, and forwards me the url. OK you think I could get in with that. No it returned me to home/index page.
    6. Tried copy and paste of the direct URL. no still re-directs me to index page
    7. Turn on old computer and I can log in..... Only two problems it is much to slow and my MS is not on there

Does anyone have any ideas so that I can follow the Challenge exactly or do I just cave in and publish without WPD?

What you are describing is typically associated with a "cookie" problem ... meaning that your computer is not saving the cookies needed to remain logged in to WPD.

I recommend clearing your browser's cache, history and cookies. Then try to re-access your WPD account.

Thanks for your reply Kasey, I was just about to say that was one of the things that I forgot to put on the list as I think I was doing it every couple of hours, then I thought that I had better check out Chrome as I had only downloaded for the Challenge. So I checked it and I had not cleared the cache there. Great I thought we are ready to roll...........But it did not work. Still takes me to index page when I try to log in. It is as if there is a wall between me and the membership area and I just bounce back to the home page.

You said that you've cleared the cache, but have you cleared the cookies, too?

The next thing you can do is try logging in using a browser other than Chrome. Does that change (improve) things for you?

You could also check your cookie settings - is your browser set to save cookies at all?

Yep, cleared the cookies, tried IE7 and FF about 11.00pm last night, just before I kicked the computer (Well I thought about it) It is most likely one small, obvious thing but I am about to cave in and just publish via the control panel.

Kevin, I thought great, I haven't checked that yet. I did have it set for cookies (my way) but I changed it back to default and tried to log in again.......... it did not work.

What is the WPD index page you are referring to?

The key as I see it is not being able to log in to WPD, and the only thing I can think of that would prevent you from doing that is a wrong username or password. But a wrong entry on my part takes me to a page that says either the email address or password is wrong. And of course the correct entries takes me to the main page for managing my site.

Just for the heck of it, I clicked on "lost password" to get a new password, and everything worked flawlessly with the new password.

Are you using an autofill for your username and password on this one computer?

Hi Marvin, sorry an index page is the home page. No I do not use autofill nor do I save and I did get a new password two days ago before I realised that it was my computer not WPD. Yes you are correct if I type in the wrong email or password it will take me to a page that says so. (password or email incorrect). What is happening for me is, that instead of going to my member area (which will have an extension /dashboard.php) it is going to the home/index page.

I was thinking you might be talking about the home page, but thought it best to double check .

Two other thoughts come to mind. First, have you run a virus check to make sure you don't have something running in the background you don't want?

Second, I noticed that once I log in, I get redirected from the home page to my dashboard page. At the point I am logged in, I cannot get to the home page as it redirects immediately. It sounds like you are not getting redirected. Do you have anything installed that might stop the redirection from taking place?

Hmmm, another thought ... have you bookmarked your dashboard? If so, you might try going to that bookmarked page. Mine also has a subdomain in the URL, so I go to panelx.wpdirect.com/dashboard.php where the x is a number of the panel.
