Here's one of my potential theme keywords that I'm thinking of carrying forward to Module 2, and my analysis:
Niche1_Keyword_Research.jpgNiche1Competition.png
Keyword Research:
Searches of 4438; SEOT 1863; PBR 81%; SEOC 26100.
All the figures are within the Challenge criteria, and I'm happy with the traffic and phrase-to-broad figures. I'm also encouraged by the number of potential category keywords (there are 16 besides the main theme keyword that fit the criteria). The SEOC value is within the criteria, but at the higher end, which may work against it.
SEO Competition Matrix:
Again, this passes the criteria with 3 green lines. It's good to see that one of the green lines is at #2, that the #1 result is 'mostly' green, and that most of the results don't appear to have optimized their pages for the keyphrase (I'm drawing this conclusion based on the amount of green in the on-page factors). Half the list has a PR of 1 or 2, while 4 of them have under 10 backlinks.
Comparing this matrix to that of some of my other key phrases, I also noticed something else. Usually, I see some of the big shopping names appear in the top 10 (Amazon, Target, etc), which is fine because they're unlikely to be focussing too much effort on individual phrases. As Dr. Anthony says, it's probably the overall authority of the site that's giving them a good rank. In this case, however, I only recognized 1 site (a single article from eHow.com at #8), and it's not even a shopping site. Should I read anything into that?
Commercial Indicators
Seems to pass this test. I'm getting 11 Adwords, about 30,000 eBay products, and 152 Amazon ones. I'm not sure why there is such a difference in the eBay and Amazon quantities (maybe Amazon's search is more specific?), but at least there are products on each. I found a couple of eBooks, there are plenty of existing e-stores, and many sites have affiliate programs. On the other hand, the products themselves are generally low priced (< $20-30) so I'd imagine it would take a little bit of creative thinking to make any real money from this niche.
So that's my analysis so far, would anyone care to comment?
Thanks,
Michael.
