    SEO Matrix results

I'd like to take you up on your offer to judge my SEO Matrix results, although I'm not sure exactly which information you need (a screenshot of the entire matrix?). In the meantime, I've made a small table similar to this but don't know if it's sufficient for your purposes.

    Keyword 1 - SEOT: 111, PBR: 44%, SEOC: 19,100, green bars: 2
    Keyword 2 - SEOT: 136, PBR: 35%, SEOC: 14,500, green bars: 3

These two keywords are very close to being the same thing. I know I can only choose one for the URL but the traffic might come on both, I'm not sure.

    Keyword 3 - SEOT: 111, PBR: 36%, SEOC: 16,200, green bars: 2

Jan a screenshot of your matrix would be handy and you also need to provide your own initial analysis as required by Caro's post here: http://challenge.co/forum/showthread...atrix-Analysis

Here's the screenshot. My 'analysis is that it fits the criteria so far.
    SEOT: 111
    PBR: 36%
    SEOC: 16,200

There looks to be some serious competition there but also some space. Getting a bit ahead, I don't see the most obvious choice of URL for that theme keyword being used. There are 10 other keywords that would be category keywords and another 19 when I do a search on the theme keyword itself. It looks possible to me but I could be missing something.

Jan you are correct there is some space with 2 rows of green on the matrix (and the No 1 position free is good) but there is also some heavy competition to get past first. The low end SEOT with only moderate PBR means that you probably won't get much traffic till you get to the number 1 position (and even then only around 40 per day). It certainly meets the Challenge criteria and if you have a lot of good category keywords it may be sufficient traffic wise but if it was me I would have an alternate niche available as a backup as an added precaution.

Here's my take on the category keywords: although the theme keyword is a micro-niche it's very product-heavy, rather than a lot of information with a few products for sale. The category keywords within the theme are pretty much just products and some of those keywords would be too competitive on their own. In other words, if I tried to narrow down my chosen theme keyword and pick one of my category keywords to be the theme instead (and it would be possible) I would be in over my head. What this looks like is that my theme keyword is really just a backdoor keyword into a huge market with thousands of related products that have a ton of traffic. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Have I hit the jackpot or am I chasing my tail? I can easily break my theme keyword down into 30 or 40 categories of products and the combination of traffic on the ones I can rank for might make up to something do-able. I'd have to check the competition on all the category keywords, I think.

Jan all the category keywords that you use for the challenge need to follow the same 80/15/30,000 as the keyword - they don't have to have a row of more of green in their matrix but they do have to meet the traffic numbers - when you say that the category keywords would be over your head as the theme keyword does that mean they have too high an SEOC value or just that they don't past the matrix test?

It's hard to say much else about your niche without knowing the topic ( & please do not reveal it) but ultimately it's all about getting good traffic numbers to test your site and the keyword numbers & matrix you showed me are not what I would choose to tackle myself. If it's a topic that appeals to you then it does pass the Challenge criteria so you can go ahead but you may face some traffic problems later.

The category keywords are the ones that came up in the first test. I picked the theme keyword out of those, so they pass the test, but then I started to do the matrix test on some of those and they look more competitive. I haven't done them all yet so I'm behind here. But my thinking is if my theme keyword is too competitive I can still get traffic on the category keywords. Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way and need to go back to Day 1.

I'm trying not to look ahead here because seeing too much at once has stopped me in the past, but if I choose a niche that has products primarily and nothing much to say, am I going to be stuck later for article-writing?

I have another niche with good numbers but there's not enough category keywords. It's basically cause and cure; two keywords.
